Fracutre Repair

There are many possible ways for your pet to injure its leg. Fractures can involve growth plates, joints, and the long part of the bone. The most important part of fracture repair is to successfully restore the same alignment and length of bone as originally found. Then the bone must be kept in that alignment. There are many options to keep bone in the correct alignment including plates, wire, pins, and external fixation devices.

Many clients wonder why the bone cannot be repaired using a cast or splint. Unfortunately, most animal’s legs cannot be kept sufficiently immobile to allow healing with a cast alone.

We use locking compression plates, which decrease vascular damage and promote faster healing and return to function. In addition, your pet may be treated with minimally invasive plating techniques that also encourage faster healing by disrupting blood supply less.
